Chapter 5. - Snippets of Chorus Lines
From Issue No. 5 (March 1997)
Vital Statistics. As a non-active member, [Name not divulged] who has to deal (only!) with programme sales during the week of the show, it never fails to amaze me how those appearing on the stage every night do so with such energy - and all this after working at their normal employment during the day. I am assured by active members that the tiring aspect of 'the week' is not appearing on stage, but the effort of earning a living as well. So perhaps the the following statistics might shed a little light on the problem, and be a personal statement from each and everyone of you 'stars'.
- The population of this country is 51 million.
- 21 million are retired. That leaves 30 million to do the work.
- There are 19 million in school. That leaves 11 million to do the work.
- 2 million are unemployed and 5 million are employed by the Government. That leaves 4 million to do the work.
- 3 million are employed by County and Borough Councils, leaving 1 million to do the work.
- There are 620 thousand in hospital and 379,998 in prison.
- That leaves 2 people to do the work - you and me.
And you are sitting reading this, - 'No wonder I'm bloody tired!'
