"ANNIE" had its first performance in New York on 16th May1946.staring Ethel Merman, for whom the show was written to show off her talents. As the run lengthened the part was taken over by Mary Martin.

The show came to the Coloseum in London in 1747, staring Dolores Gray, Bill Johnson, John Garside and Wendy Toye running for 1,304 performances. It was made by MGM into a film in 1950 staring Howard Keel and Betty Hutton.
