"SIXTY GLORIOUS
YEARS" SSAOS Diamond
Jubilee Spring Show
|
This Concert covered some of the musical favourites of the South Shields Amateur Operatic Society
In the programme notes from the chairman of the Society, Stewart Blenkinsop, they ncluded the following -
The new milestone in our history could not be allowed to be passed without some special effort by the Society. It is many years since we produced an evening of entertainment, other than the annual November Show, so when the idea of "Sixty Glorious Years" was first brought to the Committee it was decided to time our own Jubilee effort to fall into the timetable of local events celebrating Her Majesty's [Queen Elizabeth] Silver Jubilee.
We present our show, too, as a token of appreciation of the support we have received over all the years from our Vice-Presidents and from a loyal and ever increasing number of patrons, not only from the South Tyneside area but more recently from Wearside and further afield.
"Sicty Glorious years" is only the 'taster'. Our Jubilee production in November will be Ivor Novello's "PERCHANCE TO DREAM" - surely a happy choice when we recall the success we had with our 50th birthday production "KING'S RHAPSODY", also a Novello show. We know you will all support us at the Regent to wish us a 'Happy Birthday Show', with many more to come.
