"THE MERRY WIDOW"

SSAOS 1979 production

In the programme notes the President, Ernest F Hedley, wrote:

"We first produced "THE MERRY WIDOW" in 1959 - 20 years ago - and many of our patrons will remember with great pleasure how successful a production it was. If any musical was worthy of a repeat performance, "THE MERRY WIDOW" is undoubtedly in that category and it will give our younger supporters the opportunity to see one of the most popular and famous of all musicals. It has, in addition, everything that is required to produce first class entertainment.

I am told that the cost of the production will be in the region of £11,000 compared with the cost of the 1959 show which was £2,856. The continued success of the Society arises from the wonderful help we get from various organisations throughout the region and from our patrons and, in particular, our Vice-Presidents who give us their support each year."
