At first sight, Shakespeare, Science Fiction and Rock and Roll seem an unlkely combination for a musical. Despite this, Bob Carlton's Return to the Forbidden Planet became a smash hit in 1989, playing to packed houses and winning the Laurence Olivier Award for the Best Musical. Since then it has enjoyed highly succesful tours and developed cult status. It is based loosely on Shakespeare's "THE TEMPEST"

"Bob Carlton's cult musical is ideal for amateur shows, packed with excellent songs, having a clever, witty script and several plumb parts for players.
All of this is immaterial if the amateur group isn't up to the challenge. This amateur group is, and performs the show very well."
