"BYE-BYE BIRDIE" was Broadway's first musical to touch on the craze for rock 'n roll music even though it didn't use that type of music for its score. Whilst the story was set in the rock music business, the songs were pure traditional musical comedy.

Birdie is actually a 'he' - Conrad Birdie and both he and his agent have a problem. Just as he is about to start repaying all the money that has been lavished in building him up to stardom, Conrad's gone and got drafted. Bye Bye.
