"SALAD DAYS"
SSAOS Junior 1980 production
"SALAD DAYS" was first produced as an end of season jaunt for a repertory company at the Old Vic in Bristol, the show being writen by two of the company's players at a time when it was not known for the 'serious' theatre to present musicals. However, in London at the same time, "THE BOY FRIEND" was also having a record breaking run firstly at the Players' Theatre moving on to the Wyndham's Theatre, before going to New York.
"SALAD DAYS" was written in a revusical style reminiscent of that of the 1920's and all the actors were having a jolly good time showing off any special talents they might have, the story being less important than its scenes. As it was for actors rather than singers, the songs were written in a narrow voice range which did not tax their limited singing ability. However that didn't stop there being a number of tuneful songs which soon became popular.
