"Barnum" traces the career of America's greatest showman since 1835 to the year he joined with James A Bailey to form 'The Greatest Show On Earth'.
In 1842 Barnum became the manager of Charles Sherwood Stratton, a midget whom Barnum renamed General Tom Thumb. From 1844 to1847 Barnum toured Europe with Stratton. The midget created a sensation and made a fortune for Barnum. In 1850 and 1851 The Swedish Nightingale, Jenny Lind made a triumphant concert tour of the United States under Barnum's management. In1882 Barnum imported the giant African elephant 'Jumbo' from the London Zoo.
